A 27-year-old man from Ocala was swimming with some family members at Daytona Beach when they got caught in a rip current. Records show they were swimming in an unguarded area at 1024 North Daytona Beach at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
According to the reports, the group was caught in a rip current and other members managed to escape except for the 27-year-old.
Deputy Chief Ethridge of the Volusia Beach patrol said that “we’ll continue rescue efforts. We’ve notified surrounding counties in case currents take him into different places. So, everyone’s aware. Unfortunately, we’re doing everything we can to try bringing him home to his family.”
Authorities in Volusia County said they are searching for the missing swimmer with numerous lifeguards, two rescue jet skis, and a drone.
