TAMPA, FLORIDA – According to the Tampa Police department, the Monroe Middle School reported having a student who brought a loaded handgun to school on Friday.
The administrators of the Monroe campus were alerted by another student of the possession of the loaded gun. The resources officer at the campus then searched and found the handgun in the student’s backpack, according to the news.
According to police, the boy as a minor is faced with charges for the possession of a firearm and a concealed weapon on school property. He was then booked and transported to a juvenile assessment center.
With the undisclosed identity of the boy, the officers stated that the boy never attempted to make a threat to anyone on school property.
“We need everyone in our community to learn from the actions of this brave student”, said Chief Brian Dugan as praise to the middle schooler who reported the administration of the school about the gun.
