Florida man accused of making bombs at home in Ocala

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, they found multiple homemade bombs and other explosive materials stashed at a residence in Ocala.

Report says Paul Thomas Giangrasso was initially arrested on Oct. 27 during an incident in which he pointed a gun at a deputy and screamed, “Shoot me right here, right now.” Deputies said Giangrasso didn’t want to  surrender all of his guns and ammunition so a search warrant was sought instead.

While investigating deputies found many things. Deputies described in a notice -“items that appeared to be suspicious in nature to include wires that were connected to the residential electrical system and attached to metal mesh that was lined against numerous walls in the home.”

Deputies also found a metal container with a plastic lid that was covered in a dark powder, had holes drilled into it and had a firework-style fuse that was determined to be an improvised explosive device.

The reports say military-style grenades, consumer-grade fireworks and explosive materials were also found on the property.

Deputies said Giangrasso is facing charges of making a destructive device, violation of a risk protection order and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

 

 

A child and woman killed in Marion County crash

As per the recently released report, the Florida Highway Patrol said a child and 40-year-old woman have died after a crash in Marion County. No one inside the car was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Troopers said it happened just before 8 p.m. Friday near Northwest 100 Street, just east of NW 49 Avenue Road. Unfortunately, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to troopers, the woman was speeding on Northwest 100 Street when she crossed over the centerline and eventually lost control. Troopers said there were two children, not wearing seatbelts inside the car. One child died of his injuries and the other is still in critical condition.

The Florida Highway Patrol is doing further investigation about the crash. No more information has been released. Stay Updated!

“It could’ve killed my child. Over what?”; shots fired into Silver Springs home

The report says a gunshot rang out along Northeast 59 Terrace in Silver Springs. According to the Marion County deputies, the incident happened just after 5 a.m. on Oct. 21. in Silver Springs home. Records show the bullet holes were just feet away from where the teen was sleeping.

“I did not hear it, my 15-year-old woke me up and said ‘mommy I think somebody shot at our house.’ I figured she was dreaming,” said Stephanie Burdge.

Deputies searched the surveillance video but unfortunately could not found anything suspicious, the video is too dark to see anything. Burdge and her husband live in their home with three of their children. “It could’ve killed my child. Over what? We keep to ourselves. We’re just a normal family,” said Burdge. “It’s one of those gut-wrenching feelings that ‘Gosh, this happened to my home.’”

“If that street light would’ve been on, we would’ve seen a little more,” said Burdge. “It’s pitch dark. You can’t even see ten feet in front of you when it gets dark.”

Ocala police chief killed in Marion County plane crash

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Ocala Police Chief Greg Graham died Sunday morning in a plane crash.

Records show deputies along with the Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the 9700th block of Southwest 140th Avenue in Dunnellon in reference to a plane crash on Sunday morning.

“He loved Ocala and Ocala loved him,” said Sheriff Billy Woods. He said “the family of Chief Greg Graham, Ocala Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and all who knew Chief Graham experienced a tragedy today. Right now, the focus is to assist his family and his family in blue who are impacted by his sudden and tragic loss.” “This tragedy has affected all of us and the ripple effects of such a sudden tragedy will be felt across felt across both of our agencies,” said Woods, who called Graham a “friend and a mentor.”

Marion County Fire Rescue expressed the grief through a Facebook post:

“Our prayers go out to the Graham family and friends and those at the Ocala Police Department on the tragic lost of Ocala Police Chief Greg Graham in a small plane crash this morning.”

Ocala Police Department Deputy Chief Mike Balkin expressing his sorrow said, “He was a true mentor, a true leader (and) a forward-thinking professional.”

47-year-old burglar microwaved victim’s leftovers while breaking into in Marion County

Christopher Pennington, 47,  went on a crime spree that involved him breaking into three homes and stealing two vehicles in Marion County. Records show he was caught yelling in someone’s yard.

Jeremy Tapia, says his mother woke up early Wednesday morning to their fridge beeping. She thought he left it open so she closed it and went back to bed. Tapia said, “Ten minutes later she hears the microwave running”. Describing the incident Tapia added, “as soon as she sees him, she screams.” Pennington was heating their leftover rice in the microwave.

According to the reports, Pennington took off with Tapia’s father’s truck after his mother found him in their kitchen. The family still cannot believe what happened early in the morning. “No normal robber would just cook food in the middle of robbing someone’s house,” Tapia said.

Authorities said Pennington robbed another two Summerfield homes and stole another truck on that same night.  Dennis Adkins’, 73, was sleeping when he heard some noise and woke up to find Pennington rummaging through his closet. “I said I don’t know who you are, what you want, or what you’re looking for but you’re in the wrong place,” Adkins said. “I would have walked, but I don’t breathe so well, so yeah he put me in a predicament,” said Adkins. “The guy needs some help. He needs to be punished for what he’s done.”

Records show Pennington is now facing several charges for these activities. He was caught yelling in someone’s yard.

40-year-old man hit and killed by train in Marion County

A 40-year-old man was killed by a train Tuesday. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal crash.

Eric Truesdell, 40, was hit and killed by a train around midnight Tuesday. According to the reports, Eric Truesdell was found by the tracks near SE 28th Place and SE 5th Terrace.

Records show CSX Transportation later confirmed it was a freight train traveling from Tampa to Waycross, Georgia.

“CSX appreciates the swift response of the Marion County police who is investigating the incident,” the company said in a statement. “At CSX, safety is our highest priority in the communities where we operate. We remind the public to be alert and cautious when crossing railroad tracks, and that any activity on or near a rail line can be dangerous.”

45-year-old motorcyclist killed in crash with dump truck in Marion County

A 45-year-old motorcyclist from Dunnellon was killed Friday morning in a fatal crash with a dump truck in Marion County.

The motorcyclist was riding a 2003 Honda and traveling west on State Road 40 near S.W. 113th Terrace at about 6:40 a.m. when the 1991 model dump truck crossed into his lane during an attempt to make a U-turn. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. However, a 57-year-old driver of the dump truck, of Ocala, wasn’t injured in the incident.

According to the reports, Marion County Fire Rescue Spokesman James Lucas said the call was assigned to firefighters at 6:45 a.m. and they arrived at 6:47 a.m. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said, the dump truck driver, heading west, had stopped on the north shoulder of State Road 40 near Southwest 113th to make a U-turn at a cut-through in the median.

Dwight Littlefield, the truck’s owner, told the driver had more than a decade of experience and he was completely shaken by the incident. I don’t believe I’ll get him to drive a truck again,” Littlefield said about his driver.

The Marion County Sheriff’s office told that the man involved in deputy shooting case is dead.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s officials, the deputies were conducting an investigation at Larch Road on Saturday. They responded to the armed shooter who was pointing at them.

While the deputies were arriving at the place, the man pointed a firearm at them and compelled them to shoot. In this shooting, the man was killed.
