One teenager was killed and the other 3 were seriously injured after a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 27 in Clermont early Tuesday morning.
Clermont police said the crash happened in the area of South U.S. Highway 27 and Hooks Street around 2:30 a.m. Teens were in a Toyota Corolla that collided with a box truck.
According to the reports of the police, one passenger of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. The victims were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and Arnold Palmer Hospital.
“This call was actually generated by an officer who was conducting a business check-in that vicinity and heard what sounded like a collision, went to investigate and they were actually the first individuals on scene,” Sgt Malcolm Draper with the Clermont Police Department said.
“The driver of the Toyota, along with one passenger, sustained critical injuries. One passenger was pronounced deceased by Emergency Medical Personnel. The remaining passenger sustained life-threatening injuries,” Clermont police said in an update.
Police are working to figure out why four children, all under the legal age limit, would be driving around Clermont late at night.
