According to the deputies, a woman was struck by an SUV in a crosswalk and died on Sunday night. Records say the victim was a beloved Publix employee at the 2100 Saxon Blvd. grocery store.

The 73-year-old Deltona woman, Mary Green, was airlifted to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford. As per the reports, Green was walking east across Saxon Boulevard at 7:35 p.m. Saturday when she was struck by the SUV.

Records show the SUV was turning left from Normandy Boulevard. The victim was severely injured and was pronounced dead in the hospital.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said the intersection was dimly lit and Green was wearing dark clothing.
