Navy to continue bombing in Florida

ORLANDO, FLORIDA: The Navy was dropping bombs during training in Central Florida. Residents of Seminole and Orange counties reported to 911 about the “booms” and posted queries on Facebook groups.

Friday and through the weekend more blasts and shaking are possible as the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville keeps on directing live and inert bomb practice at Pinecastle Range Complex in the Ocala National Forest. The bombing was planned to take 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. from Jan. 18 to Jan. 24, as per facilities schedule.

It’s regular for F-18 fly contenders and other Navy airplanes to drop bombs in the range.

The blasts and noisy commotions may push wildlife out of the forest and onto a close by streets. The range complex is around 2 miles west of the Camp Ocala campgrounds and close to a few climbing trails.

Officials warn “Always be mindful of larger animals including black bears and practice bear-wise measures”.

Anyone who has a complaint is asked to call the Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility in Jacksonville at 800-874-5059.
