Authorities found 71-year-old Connie Taylor dead inside the house. They also found the 5 and 7-year-old boys at home alone. After the death of their adoptive mother Taylor, the two boys lived alone in their home for about a week.
The two brothers did not show up for school all week. The Forney ISD teacher tried contacting their mother but failed. The teacher found something suspicious and called the police for a welfare check.
According to the reports, the two boys couldn’t call 911 because they didn’t have the screen lock passcode for their mom’s phone.
“They knew something was not right,” said Forney ISD Spokesperson Kristen Zastoupil. “They are used to communicating with this parent. And so when they didn’t get a response, they knew something was off.”

“They are always heroes in our eyes, but even more so… to have to share with them the outcome Friday was very heartbreaking and it was a really tough weekend,” Zastoupil said. “They are thinking about their students, and that’s the first thought.”
Investigators believe Taylor died of natural causes. The two boys are being cared for by their mother’s adult biological children.
