2583 new cases on Florida; Coronavirus update 1



The Florida Department of Health reported 2,583 new cases Thursday, bringing the state total to 654,731 positive COVID-19 tests in six months.

The state also reported an additional 213 recent deaths from the virus. Florida’s death toll now stands at 12,482, including 156 non-residents who died here. There are 2,920 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, currently in Florida.

The health department received 51,304 test results from labs across the state Wednesday. Of all the test results received, 7.19% were positive. This includes people who have been tested multiple times.

  • Tuesday: 8.15%
  • Monday: 6.81%
  • Sunday: 6.35%
  • Saturday: 6.55%

Percent positivity for new cases is the number of people who test PCR (nose swabs) or antigen-positive for the first time divided by all the people tested that day. The percent positivity for new cases was 5.54% on Wednesday.

Death rates: The deaths announced may not be from the past 24 hours. It can sometimes take weeks for fatalities to be logged.

  • Sunday: 38

The death toll surpassed 400 on Thursday, on Orange County. Medical supplies are used on high demand like masks, sanitizer, etc, and in “many ways things have only gotten worse,” the American Medical Association’s president, Dr. Susan Bailey, said in a recent statement.
