According to firefighters, the shark was likely heading for the fishing line off Santa Rosa Beach on Thursday and may have mistaken the guy for bait.
To warn other swimmers in the area, the fire department flew two red flags. The shark is estimated to be between 7 and 8 feet (2 meters) long.
